Mass defection as 1,615 members of Adamawa APC dumps party for the PDP

As many as 1,615 All Progressives Congress (APC) cardholders have defected to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa state.

APC members from the state’s Toungo Local Government Area were welcomed to the PDP last Saturday.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Mustapha Albashir, Alhaji Gana and Mallam Yahaya Abubakar said more people were willing to follow them to the PDP.

According to them, after seven years in the APC, they cannot count on anything concrete that the party under President Muhammadu Buhari has achieved.

They bemoaned the country’s increasing insecurity, stagnation and poverty under the APC government and said they learned their lessons after voting for the PDP in the 2015 election.

The defectors also claimed that the Buhari government had failed in its election promises to Nigerians.

The defectors, welcomed by Adamawa State PDP leader Tahir Shehu, said they were now convinced the Umbrella camp was the right place since Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri had ruled since 2019 when the PDP ousted the APC in the state brought about a real change.

Abubakar said: “Our journey to the APC was pointless, we have united since 2015 to defeat the PDP, but we realized we made a mistake. “We ask our children and family members to retrace their steps as a token of appreciation for the progress we have seen in Toungo, because this council has been in the dark since its inception over 30 years ago before Governor Fintiri’s PDP administration came back and brought the town hall to the national electric system. We are not ungrateful because what the administration has done is a debt that must be paid with our vote and support. Unfortunately, the APC set us back and we are leaving the party for the party that brought us development.

For his part, Shehu said that former PDP vice president and presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar asked to shake hands with the 1,615 new members who showed courage to protest the bad government. He said the standard protocol is for the party to house them at the neighborhood level, which the party has done.

“Atiku has asked the party to arrange for 1,615 of you, who have left Toungo’s APC caucus, to be taken to his mega-demonstration in Yola on August 15 to celebrate his rise to the post of PDP President’s flag-bearer, because he would like to shake your hand,” Shehu said.
