Nigeria: Governor Mutfwang Imposes 24-Hour Curfew on Mangu LGA of Plateau

Following recent attacks, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State ordered a 24-hour curfew on the Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) of the State.

In a statement released by Mr. Gyang Bere, the Governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, on Sunday in Jos, Mutfwang issued the order.

According to reports, further attacks were launched on a few communities in the Mangu LGA on Saturday night, leaving nine people dead, numerous homes destroyed, and many more displaced.

“The State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Mangu Local Government Area, following recent attacks that led to loss of lives and properties.

“The Governor, in consultation with the State Security Council, imposed the curfew on the entire Local Government Area to restore law and order.

“Consequently, movements within the Local Government have been banned until further notice except for security personnel and persons on essential duties.

“Security agencies have therefore been directed to ensure total enforcement of the curfew,” the statement read.

The governor further reassured the populace that efforts were being made by the state’s administration to reestablish peace and security.

This comes after armed assailants invaded a community in Plateau State on Saturday night, killing nine people and razing six homes. The Sabon Gari community in the state’s Mangu Local Government was the scene of the attack.

The incident is the most recent in a state where there have been several other attacks by armed assailants amid ongoing ethnoreligious disputes in different regions of the state.
