NTA Secures AFCON Rights to Broadcast all 52 Matches

On Wednesday, the National Television Authority (NTA) revealed its exclusive broadcasting rights for all 52 matches of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

This development follows MultiChoice, the owners of DSTV, announcing that the tournament will not be aired on SuperSport (SS).

“In a groundbreaking move, the NTA and Afro Sports have inked a game-changing memorandum of understanding to broadcast 52 thrilling matches of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire,” NTA posted on X.

Last Wednesday, MultiChoice confirmed that it failed to secure the right to broadcast the 2023 AFCON.

“However, AFCON 2023 games will be available through our partner broadcast stations on Free to Air (FTA) channels,” Multichoice said.

The 2023 AFCON kicks off with the Group A match between host nation Ivory Coast and Guinea Bissau at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan on January 13, 2024.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles share Group A with Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea Bissau.

In their opening game, the Super Eagles face Equatorial Guinea at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Abidjan, on Sunday, January 14, at 2:00 pm.

Having clinched victory at Nigeria 1980, Tunisia 1994, and South Africa 2013, the Super Eagles aim for their fourth AFCON title.
