Renowned Monarch in Delta State Asagba of Asaba Passes Away

Renowned and revered, HRM Obi Joseph Edozien, the 13th Asagba of Asaba in the South-south state of Nigeria, has peacefully passed away.

His demise occurred amidst the flurry of preparations for his 100th birthday celebration, marking the end of an era for the illustrious Edozien lineage, direct descendants of Nnebisi, the esteemed founder of Asaba.

Born on July 28, 1925, HRM Edozien was not just a traditional ruler but a custodian of history and heritage, embodying the essence of his people and their rich cultural legacy.

His leadership extended beyond the confines of his kingdom as he was elected Chairman of the Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers in 1997, a testament to his widespread influence and respect.

In recognition of his outstanding service and dedication to his community and country, former Nigerian President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo bestowed upon him the prestigious Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) honor in 2003, acknowledging his significant contributions to national unity and development.

Furthermore, HRM Edozien’s commitment to education and progress was evident in his role as the Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, where he tirelessly worked to promote learning and academic excellence.

With his passing, a great void is felt not only in the traditional hierarchy of Asaba but also in the broader landscape of Nigerian culture and governance. HRM Obi Joseph Edozien leaves behind a legacy of wisdom, dignity, and service that will continue to inspire generations to come.
